His pioneering work on the cell-adhesion protein TMIGD1 (Transmembrane and Immunoglobulin Domain-Containing Protein 1), a potential novel marker for colorectal cancer led to several publications. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to understanding how TMIGD1 functions in epithelial tissues, especially within the intestine and kidney, and how its dysregulation may contribute to tumor development.
In 2020, Dr. Hartmann finished his PhD at the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation at the associated Institute of Medical Biochemistry (ZMBE Münster).
Dr. Hartmann joined Merz 2021 as Scientific Expert at the Skin Lab & Nonclinical Science Department at Merz Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany. In this role, he focused on the initiation and development of innovative projects and concepts for next-generation aesthetic products. A central part of his work included elucidating the molecular mode of action of existing formulations, as well as supporting the visualization of their effects in both in vitro and in vivo models. His expertise in advanced microscopy and complex 3D cellular systems has been instrumental in bridging fundamental biological mechanisms with translational applications in aesthetic medicine.
